Sasa African Dance Theater performs next Saturday evening in an event called “Cosmic Dancer Tandava”, which will take place at ArtServe in Fort Lauderdale. The event is sponsored by Jayadevi Arts, Inc., a non profit organization that preserves, teaches, and presents the arts and culture of Indo- Caribbean communities from Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica, Suriname, and other parts of the Caribbean living in the South Florida area. Tandava is an Indian tantric dance that symbolizes the cosmic cycles of creation and destruction, birth and death. Sasa will interpret this concept of Tandava through the lens of African dance and drum, beginning with an Ivory Coast inspired market dance, followed by the social dance Macru. Sasa African Dance Theater is a South Florida performance collective dedicated to the performance, education & expression of music and dance from the African Diaspora.
